Corvicians are an avian race in the Vistelo galaxy. In their culture of curiosity and progress, to not pursue a scientific pursuit is seen as the greatest mistake one can make.

Etymology and Other Names

"Corvician" comes from their own term, and is derived from the word corves, "knowledge". Corvician thus roughly means "person of knowledge".

Biology and Anatomy

Corvicians are small and lightly-built, though their hollow bones are still quite sturdy. Their feathers are primarily black, though some may have white patches, especially on their chest. Each wing has a three-fingered hand, though as it is still an integral part of the wing, it does not have the full range of motion other species' hands have.

Sociology and Culture

Academic and scientific pursuits are a driving force of corvician culture. Corvician schooling primarily pushes for students to pursue careers in these areas, and those who fail to are typically seen as throwing their life away. More positively, even those who do not end up in an academic field tend to pursue their chosen path with the same curiosity and determination that seems to drive all corvicians.

Angered corvicians will flare their feathers, spread their wings, and take on a coarse, cawing tone of voice.

Corvician children tend towards teasing play, with tail-pulling a popular game among them.

Notable Corvicians

Racial Traits

Corvicians are a Medium race, incurring no benefits or penalties thereof. A corvician character may opt for +2 Int -2 Con or +2 Dex -2 Str.

Specialized Knowledge: A corvician character selects one Knowledge type they have trained at level 1. Once per day, they may take 10 on a Knowledge check of this type. If they gain the Lore Master class feature, they instead may add +2 to a check of this type they take 10 on once per day.

Listen to Reason: Corvician characters use their Int modifier for Diplomacy checks instead of their Charisma modifier.

FlightCorvicians are capable of flight. This requires rolling a 15 on a Fly check to take off from flat ground. No roll is needed for taking off from high ground (e.g. off the roof of a building). They also begin with +1 in Fly.
