The present reigning monarch of Argent Firth, the princess Seral Ashencrest inherited an unstable kingdom within a world of an even more unsure future. She ruled the kingdom alongside her twin brother, Zaelen Ashencrest, following the deaths of their parents and the fall of the nation's old capital, until his departure four years later. Since then, little has changed to the average Firthian citizen, with opinions split on if she is a proper monarch capable of confronting the kingdom's problems, if she is merely better than the potential instability of disrupting the Ashencrest line that has ruled Argent Firth for almost a thousand years, or if she ought to be deposed in favor of a better leader.
Polite in the public eye and of restrained emotion, Seral Ashencrest's demeanor conceals a stern will and fixation on solving systemic, potentially unfixable problems. For much of her life, she watched as her parents — leaders of a prosperous and powerful nation — failed to act in the wake of the approaching endless winter that eventually took their lives. On her own, she has sought ever-escalating extremes to find a solution before all the world freezes over heedless of who may need to suffer for the sake of saving the rest. However, at the same time, she is keenly aware of the culpability in her actions, and she has explicitly stated to Noelle Favreau that she expects her only reward at the end of it all, when her actions are finally laid bare, to be a swift execution.
Background
In her youth, Seral Ashencrest was tutored by Jonathan Prestor, a physician also responsible for providing life-saving treatment to her brother when they were young children. Even from childhood, Seral was noted to be exceptionally brilliant, a trait that mixed poorly with her callous fixation on finding solutions to problems that those in power refused to address. In secret, she experimented on exhumed elven corpses and wild dragon cadavers and eventually created the first Firthian dragons in hopes of utilizing them to halt the encroaching winter that threatened to consume the world. The public believed that the princess had instead achieved a means of domesticating the beasts, and her brother became the first of the Argent Firth Dragonriders astride the drake Grey Tomb.
