Kingsaway is a term used in space navigation throughout the Ealdremen System. Historically, it indicated travel away from the sun Topple-King, but since the discovery of the sun Usurper and its corresponding planetary bodies has also come to mean anything closer to Usurper than Topple-King. It is contrasted with the term kingsward.
The term kingsaway is contentious throughout cultures based in Nethere, which tend to resent the notion that their planet is to be judged as being "away" from a star rather than "towards" the star they associate themselves with. As a result, Netherian navigators and pilots, who are primarily of the medrin species, tend to use the term érthers — "inwards" — when describing travel in the direction of their sun. In rare cases where Netherian navigators must communicate with ones from elsewhere in Ealdremen and choose to not use the term kingsaway, they may instead translate érthers as "redwards" in reference to the red color of Usurper.
