Nicta-slio is a Pleducchi language originating from the Gerualdian nation of Nicta. As the common language of the Gerualdi Union, it is the most widespread language spoken throughout the Ealdremen System; even outside of Union-held territories or those neighboring such regions, Nicta-slio is commonly learned as a second language for the sake of communication with Ealdremen's largest enterprises and trading ports. Its association with the Gerualdi Union has led to it gaining a number of monikers related to the political power, such as Union Vernacular (also known as U-Vern for short) or Tradetalk.
The writing system of Nicta-slio is phonetic; each character corresponds to a specific sound and holds no inherent meaning or significance on its own. Nicta-slio's oldest writing systems were notoriously inconsistent, but the language gained a new alphabet and corresponding writing system in 3089 CGC during the start of the Millennial Calm in efforts to facilitate long-term international and interplanetary communication. This writing system still remains in use in the modern day with few modifications throughout the centuries to remove unused sounds, though some local dialects have written characters specific to them in order to convey sounds unique to their dialect, or they may maintain use of characters or sounds since removed in "standardized" Nicta-slio.
