Hretlakk Flametail

From Chrono Stars

Hretlakk Flametail was a former military captain and eventual leader of the Alamír Empire prior to the succession of Derrin Stormwing X, serving as Imperial Regent 4330 CGC until 4341 CGC. She was notable in that, unlike most leaders of the Empire, she never took on the title of High Imperator; because of this, it is thought that she had little say in the crowning of her successor, as it is meant to be strictly the High Imperator's right and duty to appoint a proper heir. While the stated reason for her never being named High Imperator remains unclear, it is generally believed to be a mix of Flametail's humility and an adherence to tradition, as her predecessor, High Imperator Maurth Skyless did not go through the traditional process for naming an heir prior to her death.

As a leader, Flametail predominately maintained the Empire's current state of affairs, which made her decision to bring the Alamír Empire into the Chrono Stars War shocking to seemingly all but her closest advisors and counsel among the military. Historical opinion remains undecided on if Flametail herself desired for involvement in the war, if it was a decision made by others that fell upon her to instate, or if it was something else entirely. The Empire's early victories from their entry in the Chrono Stars War led to overall positive public views of Flametail, which made it a shock to the public when she abdicated her position in favor of Stormwing X. By the end of 4341 CGC, Flametail had fully divorced herself from the politics of the Empire she led for over a decade and returned to military service in the war she had entered her soldiers into.

Hretlakk Flametail died in action during the Chrono Stars War's last active battles in 4346 CGC in a decisive failure for the Alamír Empire against the forces of Nethere lead by the Netherian nation of Terdeu. Military analysts suggested that this loss was on account of a tactical blunder on the Empire's part, as they operated under presumptions of typical Ealdremen warfare where ships were most often captured, not destroyed, due to their scarcity; the more technologically advanced soldiers hailing from Nethere, though, had no such compunctions or real use for ships and weapons they viewed as archaic, and were typically more inclined to kill on sight than the powers the Alamír Empire was accustomed to battling. The death of one of the Empire's most famous figures both in and outside of the Alamír Empire's territories is thought to be a major contributing factor to the Alamír Empire pulling its forces back from the frontlines and major battlegrounds, contributing to to the current (as of 4364 CGC) "cold" stage of the Chrono Stars War.
